American Express Premiers New F1 Academy Documentary
Netflix is bringing the adrenaline of motorsport to the screen once again—this time with a powerful focus on female racers. On Thursday night, the streaming giant held an exclusive U.S. premiere event at the Jackie Gleason Theater at The Fillmore Miami Beach to debut its upcoming documentary series spotlighting the F1 Academy, an all-female single-seater racing championship.
Presented by American Express, Nicole Havrda’s sponsor in the F1 Academy, the star-studded evening marked the official kickoff to the F1 Academy race weekend in Miami. Attendees, many of whom were American Express® Card Members who secured the limited general admission tickets, were treated to an early screening of the series’ first episode, followed by a Q&A with special guests connected to the production and racing world.
Produced by Reese Witherspoon’s media company, Hello Sunshine, the multi-part series takes viewers behind the scenes of the groundbreaking championship, offering an intimate look at the women drivers, their teams, and the sponsors working to level the playing field in motorsport. The documentary aims to highlight the grit, talent, and ambition of young female racers striving to make their mark in a traditionally male-dominated sport.
In keeping with the high-octane theme of the night, the premiere concluded with a live performance by global recording artist Young Miko, adding a musical spark to an already electric evening.
Guests enjoyed photo opportunities, light refreshments, and interactive experiences before the screening. The venue operated as a fully cashless, mobile-entry-only site—underscoring a sleek, modern approach that mirrors the sport itself.
This latest series adds to Netflix’s expanding library of motorsport content, following the runaway success of Formula 1: Drive to Survive, and further cements the platform’s role in bringing racing culture to a global audience.
